Thanks to All Who helped Casa Juan Diego and New Needs

Artist: L. V. Díaz

We want to thank the many people who responded to our Christmas appeal to help us continue for another year.

We want to thank the many people who responded to our Christmas appeal to help us continue for another year. We also want to thank from our hearts all those who prayed for Louise during her recent serious illness

The last six months have been challenging at Casa Juan Diego. Louise spent several months in and out of the hospital and eventually had major abdominal surgery, then an emergency thrombectomy, She almost died. She is home now after two months of rehab at St. Dominic’s Center, working, answering correspondence, answering the phone, and receiving physical therapy at home. We believe she is alive because of all the prayers (as well as the work of good doctors, nurses, and aides.)

The near loss of our director coincided with an historic tragic situation in the country for our immigrants and refugees, We have a very small staff of Catholic Workers. During this time our volunteers stepped up and gave extra time. Blossom Wright (former CW) came all the way from Wisconsin to live here with her son and answer the door, work with the women of the house, and address a myriad of tasks. Some volunteers helped with the food distributions, others with the sick and injured program, others with the clinic. Others provided a presence in the house and at the door, as well as making sure that several of our pregnant women got to the hospital in time to give birth.

We still are in need of help. If you can volunteer a full morning or afternoon each week or even wash dishes or clean bathrooms, please send us an email or call.

Assist the Director

We need a full-time person to assist Louise in coordinating all the services of Casa Juan Diego, a bilingual person (at least with conversational Spanish) who could live in and help to ensure the future of Casa Juan Diego. This could be an individual or a married couple who could transition into leadership. Room and board and health insurance provided. Contact us at info@cjd.org.
