Dear Friends of Casa Juan Diego,

How we long for the Peace of Bethlehem and the good old days. But there is no peace, but rather, scandals, terror, and xenophobia.

However, the followers of the Nazarene have nowhere else to go  “To whom shall we go, Lord!” – except Bethlehem to gain the Peace the world cannot give.

The followers of the Nazarene can do more than wring their hands. They can add their drops of committed love to dilute the cesspool of violence, abuse, and scapegoating of immigrants and with the drops of many, in small ways help to create a better world. Serving the desperate is the way to fight one’s despair. With your help we bring peace to many suffering and marginalized people who live with us each night or the sick who have no one else to help them in their homes.

Hospitality

With your help we bring peace to many suffering and marginalized people who live with us each night.  They include sick and wounded men and women, pregnant women put on the street, newborns, battered women and their children and the rejects of our culture of death. Hospitality remains our biggest challenge in providing a culture of life.

Feeding the Hungry

You help us give bread instead of a stone as we provide take-home foodstuffs to the hundreds of families who come to us each week. Thanks to you all and the Houston Food Bank.

Old Clothes

We still prefer that people wear their old clothes instead of buying new ones—you may remember our “No New Clothes for a Year” program. The money saved by not buying clothes can be used by the poor. New clothes do not remake the person, but generosity does.

Sick

The sick, the wounded, and their respective hospitals call us for help, though we live in the shadow of the greatest medical center in the world.  Shadows, however, don’t care for and heal the sick. Serving the many abandoned sick people of society is our greatest expense (medications and special care are so costly) but a great way to follow the Nazarene.  It also gives the medical profession an opportunity to serve the poor.

How is it Possible?

The medical professionals and all who work at Casa Juan Diego give their “work” as a gift without compensation.  Their reward is out of this world!

Who needs Christmas?

The poor of Casa Juan Diego need Christmas. The homeless, the hungry, the naked, the sick, the powerless turn to us constantly, so now we must turn to you.

We are grateful to you for the many drops of caring concern that come to help us create a river of love for God’s poor at Casa Juan Diego.  We hope that you can continue to help us.  We know that the Peace of Bethlehem will be yours for your generosity.

Estimados amigos de Casa Juan Diego,

Cómo añoramos La Paz de Belén y los buenos viejos tiempos. Pero no hay paz, en lugar de eso hay escándalos, terror y xenofobia.

No obstante, los seguidores del Nazareno no tienen a dónde ir. “¡Señor, a quién iremos!”- si no  a Belén a ganar La Paz que el mundo no puede dar.

Los seguidores del Nazareno pueden hacer más que estrujarse las manos. Pueden agregar sus gotas de amor comprometido para diluir el pozo de violencia, abuso, y maltrato hacia los inmigrantes como chivos expiatorios, y con las gotas de muchos, en pequeñas formas podemos ayudar a crear un mundo mejor. Servir al que está desesperado es una manera de luchar contra la propia desesperación.

Con su ayuda traemos paz a la gran cantidad de gente marginada y que está sufriendo, que viven con nosotros cada noche o a los enfermos que no tienen a nadie que los ayude en sus hogares.

Hospitalidad

    Con su ayuda traemos paz a la gran cantidad de gente marginada y que está sufriendo, que vive con nosotros cada noche. Entre ellas hay hombres y mujeres  enfermos y heridos, mujeres embarazadas viviendo en la calle, recién nacidos, mujeres maltratadas y sus hijos, y los rechazados de nuestra cultura de la muerte. La Hospitalidad sigue siendo nuestro mayor reto en proveer una cultura de vida.

Alimentar al hambriento

   Ustedes nos ayudan a dar pan en lugar de una piedra, mientras proveemos alimento a los cientos de familias que vienen a nosotros cada semana. Gracias a todos ustedes y al Banco de Alimentos.

Ropa Vieja

Seguimos prefiriendo que gente utilice su ropa usada en lugar de comprar ropa nueva- ustedes recordarán nuestro programa “No ropa nueva en un año”. El dinero ahorrado por no comprar ropa nueva puede ser usado para los pobres. La ropa nueva no renueva a la persona, la generosidad sí.

Enfermos

Los enfermos, heridos y sus respectivos hospitales nos llaman para pedir ayuda, aunque vivamos en las sombras del centro médico  más grande del mundo. Las sombras, sin embargo, no cuidan ni curan a los heridos. Servir a los enfermos abandonados de la sociedad es nuestro mayor gasto (los medicamentos y los cuidados especiales son muy costosos) pero una gran manera de seguir al Nazareno. También les da la oportunidad a los que tienen una profesión médica de servir a los pobres.

¿Cómo es posible ?

​   Los profesionales médicos y todos los que trabajamos en Casa Juan Digo dan su “trabajo” como un regalo sin compensación alguna. ¡Su recompensa es fuera de este mundo!

¿Quién necesita Navidad?

Los pobres de Casa Juan Diego necesitan Navidad.

Jesús nos dijo que Él todavía está con nosotros, especialmente en los pobres, en los que sufren. Los hambrientos, la gente sin hogar, los desnudos, los enfermos, los que sufren vienen a nosotros constantemente, así que ahora nosotros tenemos que ir a ustedes.

Agradecidos

Estamos muy agradecidos con ustedes por las muchas gotas de cariñosa preocupación que nos ayudan a crear un río de amor por los pobres de Dios en Casa Juan Diego. Esperamos que nos puedan seguir ayudando. Sabemos que La Paz de Belén estará con ustedes por su generosidad.
